Marcia Fouquet has served as a professional, highly trained, experienced art educator
in the public schools of Maryland and Virginia. She earned her BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts)
from Goucher College in Towson, Md. 1952. She studied oil painting with Reginald
Marsh at the Art Students League in New York 1954. She earned the very first
Master of Fine Arts Degree ever conferred by the Maryland Institute College of Art in
Baltimore. 1957.
The publication of her doctoral dissertation at the Johns Hopkins University 1962 entitled
"Revision of the Public School Curriculum to Include the Teaching of Art History”
brought about a permanent major change in art education throughout the United States.
Marcia works and teaches in her Great Falls studio at the corner of Walker and Beach Mill
Roads. She has served as President of the Great Falls Art Center for many years.
The studio offers year-round classes in drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture and art history
for children, teens, adults and senior citizens. In addition to her regular teaching,
Marcia enjoys time for her own creative oil painting of originals in portraits, landscapes,
animals, still life, and abstract expressionism which is a contemporary style she invented.
Upon request, Marcia also paints excellent copies of famous master works such as Manet,
Monet, Raphael, Renoir, Cassatt, Picasso, and any others a patron may want. After all,
the original of any one of these masters would be cost prohibitive for most of us, so the
next best thing is a good copy. Visitors are welcome at the Fouquet Art Studio during
class times.
